What Will This Course Cover?
The content of this course will cover four major areas of study:
o MEDITATION AND SCIENCE. Over the last five decades, more than a thousand publications have documented the manifold physiological and psychological benefits of meditation, from boosting immunity and increasing longevity to enhancing mental acuity and improving emotional resilience. In this module, participants will explore findings from classic disciplines such as anthropology, biology, psychology and sociology and multidisciplinary fields such as cognitive neuroscience, evolutionary biology, interpersonal neurobiology and even neurotheology to gain a comprehensive and detailed overview of how the practice of meditation transforms human lives by literally changing the structure and the function of the human brain. By understanding the science behind the practice, students can begin designing powerful and innovative ways of extending the benefits of meditation beyond the cushion and into the world.
o MEDITATION AND SPIRITUALITY. While the science about it and around it is relatively recent, meditation itself has been around for thousands of years with roots reaching back into humanity’s prehistory. Although the practice has correlates in all major wisdom traditions, meditation as a formal system was developed out of the spiritual traditions of ancient India. In this module, participants will explore the cultural and religious context out of which meditation evolved and how its practices were formalized in Hindu and Buddhist thought. By understanding the spirituality behind the practice, students can begin recognizing the profound relevance and significance of this ancient method for contemporary times.
o MEDITATION AND PRACTICE. As the popularity of meditation increases, so does the number of its applications and techniques—with significant consequences on the effectiveness of the practice. In this module, participants will experience the major formal and informal techniques of meditation and learn to distinguish when a practice is authentically meditative in nature and when it is not. By understanding the essence of the practice, students can navigate effectively through the vast number of techniques available today and, more importantly, identify which technique can benefit and deepen their practice the most.
o MEDITATION AND TEACHING. As the relevance of meditation increases, so does the demand for people who can effectively teach or train others in its techniques. In this module, participants will learn how to introduce other people to the practice of meditation and to lead brief guided meditations using the most common methods. More importantly, participants will begin to appreciate how—unlike the teaching of other skills—the teaching of meditation demands that the teacher embody certain qualities that can only be cultivated by living life a certain way. By appreciating the ethics behind the practice, students can begin exploring how to live life so that the distinction between times spent on the cushion and off the cushion begins to disappear.
This program will be held at Yoga Dunia, located on the magical island paradise of Nusa Lembongan and just a short 30-minute boat ride away from beautiful Bali. A small and peaceful island, Nusa Lembongan features pristine white sand beaches, warm turquoise waters and lush jungle forests. Sporting the beauty of Bali but without the hustle and bustle of its tourist crowds, Nusa Lembongan is the perfect setting for experiencing the life-transforming benefits of mindfulness and meditation.

A non-refundable $500 USD deposit is required to reserve your space in the training.
